2022-2023 Sacramental Preparation Program

Family Sessions

In the Sacrament Preparation Program we respect and support the parent’s first responsibility for the education of their child. Our program provides at-home materials along with in-Church opportunities for growth and knowledge. Families as a whole are welcome and encouraged to participate in the sessions.

Each Family Session is offered twice to better fit your schedule.  The content covered is the same – please attend one or the other.  Session dates and topics for 2022-23 are as follows:

  • September 12 OR September 15 – Sacramental Preparation Introduction
  • October 3 OR October 7 – Understanding Reconciliation
  • November 4 OR November 7 – Family Adoration Night
  • January 23 OR January 26 – Tour of the Church
  • February 13 OR February 16 – Understanding the Eucharist
  • March 6 OR March 9 – Teaching on the Mass

A printable calendar of the program sessions can be found at ap.church/classschedules.

Home Lessons Information

Sacramental Preparation combines a home-study program with in-person Family Sessions. Our Sacrament Preparation Program uses the St. Joseph First Communion Catechism to help guide us through the fundamentals of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Other materials will be sent periodically that will bring further enrichment to the program. All of our materials are available in English and Spanish upon request.

Assessment Information

Children will be assessed on their readiness prior to receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.  Assessments are an informal interview done in a group setting.

Assessment Dates

  • Reconciliation assessments will be held in early December 2022
  • Communion assessments will be held in March 2023

Additional Details

  • Children attending St Anthony of Padua Catholic School will participate in assessments during the school day.
  • Children participating in in-person Faith Formation will be assessed during their scheduled Faith Formation classroom time.
  • Children participating in a homestudy program will participate in assessments during an individually scheduled appointment time.
