2020-2021 Sacramental Preparation Program

Family Sessions

First Sacraments preparation combines a home-study program with in-person Family Sessions.  Family Sessions are in-person gatherings in the main Church. Session dates and topics are as follows:

  • 28 September 2020 – Understanding Reconciliation
  • 6 November 2020 – Family Adoration Night
  • 2 December 2020 – Understanding the Eucharist
  • 22 January 2021 – Family Prayer Night

All events will be live-streamed and recorded. If you are unable to attend an in-person session, please join us virtually.  View live broadcasts at ap.church/stream.  Recorded sessions will be posted as links on this webpage.

Note: First Sacraments preparation for children in grades 7 and 8 is on an individual basis.  If you are seeking First Reconciliation and First Communion for your junior high student, please register for Junior High Youth Ministry and based on your form submission, one of our Youth Ministry staff will contact you directly.  The lessons for these students will follow the Junior High (7th-8th) Schedule found here.

Home Lessons Information

First Sacraments preparation combines a home-study program with in-person Family Sessions. Home Study for children in kindergarten through 6th grade is titled Christ in Us.  Home study for children in 7th and 8th grade is titled Living as a Disciple of Christ.

The Christ in Us curriculum kindergarten through 6th grade students will be using combines solid catechetical vision with innovation and support for families. This home-study program can be found online at ap.church/christinus.

The Living as a Disciple of Christ curriculum 7th and 8th grade students will be using features talking points, background essays, and step-by-step instructions. This home-study program is a physical book with additional online resources.

Both of these grade-specific home-study lesson plans will be supplemented with a Sacrament Preparation guidebook, First Communion Catechism, and, of course, the Family Sessions.

We recommend completing Reconciliation Home Study before December 1, 2020 and First Communion Home Study before February 1, 2021.
