Our Mission and Values

The Cornerstone Catholic Scripture Study strives to build, strengthen and deepen a personal and loving relationship with God and His people through prayer and the study of His Word.

The Cornerstone is a fully integrated study of Scripture, offering participants four exposures to each study. Those include a daily individual study guide, weekly small group sessions, commentaries written by a Catholic theologian, and Focus talk and Spiritual Reflections that highlight the personal application of Scripture. Materials receive an imprimatur from the Archbishop of St. Louis.

The cornerstone of The Cornerstone is Prayer.

The Cornerstone Scripture Study is designed to help you establish a habit of daily prayer, share your faith with others and see the relevance of God’s Word in your daily life.

There is no fee for this study.

The 2024-2025 Study will be The Gospel of Matthew on Wednesday Mornings from 9:45 AM – 12 PM.

MATTHEW – A YEAR LONG CLASS

Matthew: The King and His Kingdom shows how Jesus fulfills God’s promises to Israel and establishes his kingdom on earth. Through references to the Old Testament promises of God to his people and the messages God sent them through the prophets, this Bible study provides the key to understanding the rest of the New Testament and Christ as the fulfillment of God’s plan.

Matthew portrays Jesus as the true King who fulfills the Law the people of Israel have failed to keep and who introduces the new law that will accompany the New Covenant. In this 24-part study of Matthew’s Gospel, Jeff Cavins explains how Jesus is challenging and empowering us to a new level of holiness and shows how we must be thoroughly immersed in the kingdom of heaven on earth, the Church, to live it.

REVELATION

Perhaps no book of the Bible fascinates people more than Revelation. Yet relatively few people have studied it, especially from a Catholic perspective. Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come is an intriguing eleven-session study program that shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. In this study, presenter Jeff Cavins pulls back the veil on the rich symbolism present in Revelation. Discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean and see how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” Explore the Church’s teaching on the second coming of Christ and the Last Judgment. Understand how God, the Divine Bridegroom, and the Church, his spotless bride, enter into a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage every time we celebrate Mass.

  • Wednesday Afternoons from 12:30pm – 2:30pm
  • September 18 – December 4, 2024
  • This program is 11 sessions and $  28.00 for the study set.

PSALMS

The Holy Spirit inspired them. Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them, as did our Blessed Mother. At the heart of the Bible are the Psalms, prayers from God that help us to pray. In the Psalms: The School of Prayer, discover how these sacred hymns become our heartfelt response to God’s loving and wondrous deeds for us.

In this 11-session Bible study, presenters Jeff Cavins, Tim Gray, and Sarah Christmyer show you how to establish a deeply personal dialogue with God through the Psalms. Learn how to meditate fruitfully on the captivating words of the Psalms using lectio divina and study the many ways the Psalms foretell the life and mission of Jesus.

PROPHETS

If God’s people had stayed close to him, there might have been no need for the prophets. God sent prophets at critical times to call the people back to their covenant relationship. Prophets proclaimed the consequences of continued sin, called people to repentance, and declared God’s faithful love. They also spoke of the future to shed light on current events and to reveal God’s plans and purposes.

It is nearly impossible to understand the work and the message of Jesus without the prophetic books. In The Prophets: Messengers of God’s Mercy, presenter Thomas Smith examines who the prophets were, their role during their time, and the meaning of their messages for our own time. Discover how God is constantly calling you to a deeper relationship as well as the ways you are called to be the voice of God to others.

  • Friday Mornings from 10:00am – noon
  • September 20 – December 6, 2024
  • This program is 10 sessions and $  28.00 for the study set.
